bup-bup-bup-bup-bup-a-budda x infinity! I've tried some of those riffs and conceptually they are not difficult but you gotta have calluses and stamina!

Here's a photo of me in my mullet days with Rocco, his wife, and child at a NAMM show circa 1990 or so.

I recall that one TOP show at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz... the place was a throbbing sweating mass of humanity swathed in green light. RIP Rocco!

He and Michael “Fly” Brooks (bassist for Elvin Bishop’s band in the ‘70’s and part of the ‘80’s) were good friends and grew up in the east bay. When I was in EB’s band, Rocco would sometimes be around. He was generally a quiet man, but his sound was thunderous and relentless!
Fly passed away a number of years ago, and now Rocco.
They both used to talk about a musician named James Knight, who they felt was the best bassist they ever knew.
He passed away a long time ago.
I’m thinkin’ they’re all talking about getting some East Bay grease now.

My two favorite bands of the '70s and '80s were T.O.P. and Little Feat. Prestia and Garabaldi were a monster rhythm section. RIP Rocco.

Rocco was an anchor in TOP, like a man flying a kite. Never heard anyone else play in that style. Incredible pulse.

Swing low sweet chariot. RIP Rocco.

Oh man, no. He's one of my three favourite bass players. Tiran Porter and James Jamerson hold the other two spots.

    RIP Francis "Rocco" Prestia

The guy created a style, which nobody could do better. TOP was unstoppable, and I was very happy to cover their tunes in bar bands. Rest in peace, Mr. Prestia.

He was the ultimate funk bass player. A style all his own. This is a great loss. RIP Rocco.
