Alt-rock veterans Foo Fighters, new wave pioneers The Go-Go's, East Coast hip-hop icon JAY-Z, singer-songwriter north star Carole King, mercurial rock savant Todd Rundgren and Queen of Rock n' Roll Tina Turner make up the Class of 2021. Of the 2021 performer inductees, Turner, King and Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl are already in the Rock Hall: King as part of the songwriting duo Goffin/King, making her the first person in the Rock Hall as a performer and non-performer; Turner for her incendiary work in the R&B duo Ike & Tina Turner; and Grohl as drummer of grunge legends Nirvana.

But that's not all. Early rap pioneer LL Cool J, keyboard master Billy Preston and hard rock guitar ace Randy Rhoads are also joining the Rock Hall with the "award for musical excellence" (which was originally titled the "sidemen" category when it debuted). And under the "early influence award" category, electronic trailblazers Kraftwerk, spoken-word poet Gil Scott-Heron and Father of the Delta Blues Charley Patton are joining the RRHOF. Music impresario Clarence Avant is the recipient of the Ahmet Ertegun award.

I'm happy to see Todd R. finally get in. Pretty diverse group this year.

They should change it from RnR to Music Hall of Fame, imo.

That's the only way some of the inductees make sense, I agree.

Yeah. None of those inductees are rock n' roll

also, there is this, that makes the whole thing clearly an obvious sham and a joke:

Link Wray - Not in Hall of Fame

The name of the event and residence should be called, "I'm in the clique". Rocknrol has less & less to do with it. You could also call it the Pop music Hall of fame. Quality of artists is not the common denominator here. What it is, is show & popularity in the internet world. You just have to "B" to be in this club.

Foos and Tina Turner don't count? The Tina in 'Ike and Tina' definitely rocked. Damn sexy, too. I never in my life, so badly wanted to be a mic and mic stand.

I wholeheartedly agree that Link Wray's absence is a glaring example of what a sham the RRHOF is. Nothing says 'rock and roll' like printed coffee cups. Exit through the gift shop.

Also Ike was an awesome guitarist, which, you know, polite society doesn't allow discussion of.

Still not rock n roll, (unless we're talking this, of course)

People want to apply the term "rock n' roll" to all kinds of things that really just aren't.
And I get it, rock n ' roll is a great, wondrous thing. and that label implies a lot of joy.

But you don't get to just randomly decide what rock n' roll is.

For example- There's been no new rock n roll on the airwaves since the early 60s, with just a couple exceptions, like The Stray Cats

Todd's also recorded his share of rockers, but they're mostly overlooked because he wrote 'I Saw The Light.'

I agree to disagree. Tina Turner definitely has bonafide RnR in her blood. The closest to Rock and Roll in this years inductees.

    Sure.

Still not a rock n' roll artist, though.
She's mostly known for this type of thing

Yes, and there's no one that can be inducted that can fix it. The rnr hof is not qualified, and has no legitimacy in my eyes, and never will.

In my book, artists and musicians who play a wide variety of genres are to be ADMIRED, not BELITTLED. I love a guy like Chuck Berry, but EVERY SINGLE SONG he writes and plays sounds the same. Tina deserves praise for not being wedged into one tiny niche.
    But...that's just me. ;)

This. And one song or even an album does not disqualify her previous contributions.

Considering the sourness of a lot of responses, this song seems appropriate. Courtesy of TR.

It's just an awards show, guys.

Agreed, so let's not dishonor her by labeling her something different than what she is

Really the RRHOF is a stupid and senseless institution

tuxedos are not rock n roll, and neither are museums

I'd agree that this is probably the first. And think, this is the first? Pretty dang good.

The list of bands not in is astonishing!

Who gives a flying F at the end of the day anyways...it's simply a few jack wagons opinions we're supposed to celebrate.

Pretty much if you're IN you're OUT. RRHOF is NOT R&R! I've been shocked at how some bands took it as an honor!

I think Jerry Garcia was the first to prefer sitting home scratching himself as opposed to being "inducted".
