First off, thank you Dave very much for organising this event!

So, I guess I have begun.

I have been hoarding a bit of domestic wood lately, which I leave to dry in my lockdown office.

Last summer I bought a couple of pieces of lumber from a local sawmill specialising in those huge monkey pod tables. I have since then planed them twice with my router planer as they cupped during drying. Today I made first incission:

I cut to the line as I used a washer when tracing the template.

Not quite square, but hopefully ok.

This is my no4 plane, I hope this is sufficiently flat for gluing on the cap.

This will be the cap, I want to try a full carve out (but with router templates).

Lets see how far I will make it!

Welcome aboard! Very good to have you :). My dad (who taught me woodworking) was a "military advisor" in the 60s working on radar sets. He of course had his wood sniffer going hard and came back with a few beautiful pieces. I'm very fond of your "domestic woods" ;)

    Good luck!!!!

    Thank you Dave.

My granddads were carpenters, I believe that my mishaps have some entertainment value on the other side.
