    ...more sad news

    ENGLISH VERSION
59-year-old American singer and songwriter Willy DeVille died of pancreas cancer during the night of August 6th in a New York hospital. Born August 27th, 1953, DeVille began his career in New York in the mid-70's with his band Mink DeVille, garnering success in Europe with songs such as Spanish Stroll (1977), and later in the United States with his album Le Chat Bleu (1980), which blended punk rock with elements from French cabaret tradition such as accordion. DeVille then pursued a career under his own name, releasing albums on a regular basis until 2008, and once more hitting the Europeans charts with a mariachi cover version of traditional song Hey Joe in 1992.

Sad news indeed. Willy DeVille is one of my favorites and is definitely one of the most under-appreciated voices in music.

    RIP Willy.

I saw him live as Mink DeVille in the 70s and later live as Willy DeVille, one of the greats. What a Bummer. He opened with "Sleepwalk" at the Coach House in San juan Capistrano,it is still so fresh in my head. That song will now always make me think of him and Richie Valens. RIP

I consider myself very fortunate that I saw him live two years ago, he was magnificent.

Just heard it on the news, how sad, he was one of my favorites.
Saw him live 2 or 3 years ago, great gig, but he already didn't look too healthy then (though I thought it was due to alcohol an/or other drugs...):
