Ricky Gardiner (31 August 1948 – 13 May 2022).

Scots guitarist who played lead guitar on David Bowie's "Low" album.
Also worked with Iggy Pop and composed the music for "The Passenger" as well as playing the riff.

I've got to know a good friend of Ricky's over the past few years (a former guitarist with Ronnie Lane's Slim Chance) via a Brain Injury survivors music trust and have only learned about Ricky Gardiner's career during this time.

A link to Ricky's site for those of you interested.

late '79 our local pub band would play Passenger in their set... they played mostly good originals with some obscure covers thrown in that most folks assumed was one of theirs as no one had really heard it anywhere else...

another one was Police Car- Larry Wallis.... it was only much later when we got an alt FM station on air that I heard the originals ... kind of a full circle thing...

that local pub band's guitarist Jeremy Oxley and some of his songs went on to form the Sunnyboys...

he was no doubt inspired by the guitar sounds on Passenger... as I was..:)

Vale, Ricky Gardiner.. thanks for the music :)
