    Definitely the end of an era (or perhaps the start of the end) and I didn’t personally enjoy the cruel memes that were going around concerning his health. The notion of a royal family seems weird sometimes these days but they’re so tied up in our culture - especially those of us born in the Twentieth Century.

    I don’t know why as nobody in my family is so, but I’ve been interested in the Royal Family since I was a kid. RIP Prince Phillip.

    Part of history has died. I enjoy the history of the Monarchy, not the present constant daily gossip about Harriet and Megamind ! He served in WW2 so in my money has done his bit for his country and has my respect as has anyone else who has fought for their country in a war.

    I've been reading some of his crankier comments. He would have felt at home on TDPRI :lol:

    Truly feel sorry for the Queen's loss. In what must be a difficult job, he was her husband and companion to help her cope. RIP. He had a great sense of satire in my opinion.

    Sorry my friend, he didn’t particularly benefit financially from being born into a broken family. He served this country in the Second World War and, when protocol dictated that his career had to end, he devoted his life to supporting the Queen, Great Britain and the Commonwealth. He was ahead of his time on protecting the environment, did wonders for trade and business and set up the Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards scheme which has helped young people all over the world to better themselves and thereby society. Whether a royalist or not, you are entitled to your view, but to say he ‘didn’t do anything particularly with it’ is, by any judgement, a mean comment. As for his off the cuff remarks, none, I’m sure, were intended to offend. That doesn’t make them (all) right, but we all say things we later regret.

    Me, too. For me it's because of Shakespeare. If the prince's behavior was sometimes bad, he certainly isn't the first one about whom we could say that. RIP

    Shakespeare's words seem appropriate to the moment;

    “Now cracks a noble heart. Goodnight, sweet prince,
    and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest. ”

    My condolences to our brothers and sisters across the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth of Nations.

    Funny thing is, I'm now watching the second season of the Crown. How true it is or exaggerated for dramatic effect, I know not. Enjoying it very much.

    R.I.P. :(

    What about starting to honour him by spelling his name correctly?
    Am I grammar police when I ask this?

    Re-posting, he lived up to the job honorably, and left a worthy legacy. There are many, many posts online about hair hygiene in recent press coverage out of the UK.

    99 is a good run. My mind is always blown when I think about the change that someone his age saw in the world. Especially bridging the early 20th and early 21st centuries. I don't know if any generation of the future will ever see change equal to it.
