Johnny Marr posted a little Facebook tribute to his friend Kirsty MacColl on Sunday, the anniversary of her tragic death. That inspired me to dig out her CDs at top them onto the thumb drive that I use in the car. It's been a while since I listened to her albums. Kirsty wrote some great songs and man, could she pick the guitar players to do them right. The guitarists on "Kite" include not only Marr, but Robbie McIntosh, Pete Glenister, and some unknown by the name of David Gilmour. On "Electric Landlady" when she wanted some New York flavor for "Walking Down Madison", she brought in Elliot Randall.

Kirsty was one of those who did it her way, sometimes to the detriment of her career. If the music industry didn't always believe in her, it's obvious that musicians did.

I thought it was extra cool of Johnny to stop back later in the day and "Like" all the comments we fans added to his post.

    RIP, Kirsty.

Much respect to Kirsty as she's still missed. Her music is on constant rotation in my collection. A truly fantastic song writer. So much wit.

When I first saw Billy Bragg doing this song live.....I thought he was covering Kirsty's tune... as her version was getting more airplay at the time.... it took me a while to get my head around that...

quite a fan of her work .:)

Here's to the ladies gone far too soon, with that something endearing and special that will never fade. Eva Cassidy, and Sandy Denny, and Patsy Cline...

    And Kirsty MacColl. :^(

^^^I always think of Sandy Denny when I think of Kirsty. Two immense talents gone too soon.
