An old co worker friend was a big Jerry Jeff fan. He used to make it a point to go to Texas every year to see him and other greats like Butch Hancock, Jimmy Dale Gilmore, Billy Joe Shaver, etc. He used to call him Jackie Jack. I gained a high regard for the Texas troubadours largely from him.

Yeah, Jerry Jeff Walker definitely had a huge part in shaping my early music style. I discovered him my freshman year of college, and I don't know if he helped make me or ruin me, but he was a big influence on my playing & writing!

I've done a few JJW shows. I've probably shared this before, but one time during sound check he told a story about a show somewhere out west. He was walking from the stage to the dressing room after a show, and a buxom young blonde ran out of the room, grabbed him, and planted a big wet kiss right on his lips. The next thing he saw was the drummer coming out of the dressing room, fastening his belt.

Big fan of JJW. I know he had an issue with substance abuse but his talent was what kept me coming back

What was referred to as Outlaw Country was Cosmic Country where I lived.

I’ve seen him at his best and his worst.

RIP Jerry Jeff, another Desperado Waiting For A Train finally catching a ride

Among a lot of good stuff he recorded over the years, I particularly liked the album Cowboy Boots & Bathing' Suits recorded in Belize. I even wrote a review of it on Amazon in 2000. Got to see him live a few times. One memorable concert was in a partially completed renovated theater in Vergennes, Vermont and he did some songs from that album. GREAT show. Viva Terilingua was another favorite album of mine. Great memories of listening to it snowed in at a hunting camp in Northern VT on a battery powered boombox. Luckily we had a good supply of C cells.

RIP JJW. I think I'll plug in my Thinline tomorrow and play along with both those records.

    RIP Jerry Jeff.
I've always been two days older than you so this is a bit of a wake-up call. I'll see you on the other side.
