One of the great actors on both stage and screen - very sad he passed away. I read that he suffered from Parkinson's Desease, for someone defining himself through the use and interpretation of words and emotions, this must have been awful.
His favourite performances for me aren't Lord Of The Rings, nor 5th Element, but Ash in Alien and the lawyer Mitchell in The Sweet Hereafter. Subtle and convincing in every second.

Very sad. a real shame. RIP Sir Ian.
He was in some of my favourite films of all time - Greystoke, Alien, Brazil, Time Bandits plus the Fifth Element & the Hobbit.
I think I'll have an Ian Holm film festival this weekend.

I was watching BBC news last night and the obligatory obituary came up, I paraphrase: "At 5ft 4 his diminutive height meant he was often cast as small people such as his role in The Borrowers series."

I question, how small is a borrower? If I spotted a 1.65M IC1 hiding in my house with an arm full of my belongings it would take some convincing that he was a fictional character...

Anyway, so long Ian Holm, I hope the transition was painless!

His King Lear was sublime.

Sir Ian also appeared in 'The Borrowers' I'm not much of a fan of the story, but Sir Ian is captivating in that role too. From Shakespeare to children's television, he owned the part.

His film and television work alone would rank him among the greats, but if you ever have the opportunity to watch a recording of his stage work, do so. He'll leave you breathless
