So I know I'm not the only one who's sad about the recent demise of the Danocaster shop. Particularly because I missed my chance to order one. And while I'm still not financially ready to sink two to three grand into a guitar, I'm still hoping to one day scrape together the cash to get a good luthier to custom build me a bespoke vintage style tele.

Can anybody recommend any custom shops that might run a close second? Or even someone you think is superior? Shameless self-plugging is allowed.

I think danocaster is still building random guitars for sale just not opening books anymore for customs I believe

I would look at Lucky Dog Guitars, Ron Kirn or Carmine Street Guitars. Exceptional quality stuff all the way around...some for even less money than a Dano.

I've got a Nash that I think the world of - certainly one of the most comfortable and easy guitars that I've ever owned. I cannot personally compare it to other builders - but I am pleased with it, and it's useful in my modest collection of gigging guitars.

Dan is still building and selling guitars. He sold 3(!) on his Instagram account today within minutes.

I urge you to modify the thread title - you're going to cause unnecessary pain. You make it sound like something happened to the guy, not the business.

As others have mentioned, he still sells guitars that he builds on Instagram, just isn't taking any custom orders. Turn post notifications for him on, they go quick once they're put up for sale.

K-line. I’ve played a lot of guitars over the last twenty five years or so and never ran across any that have played or sounded better than my Truxton and Springfield.

As noted above.....there are LOTS of outstanding builders out there. One not yet mentioned (until LGOberean chimes in) is Bob Logan. So, even if you can't afford an over-priced Danocaster, you CAN get a terrific Tele-style guitar. ;)

Once upon a time @Ronkirn built me a couple amazing guitars, strat & tele twins. Hard times since then, had to let them both go. But +1 for the quality of his builds
