Ringo becomes an octogenarian on Tuesday. He doesn’t look it!
It really doesn’t make me old but I am amazed that so much time has passed since he and his mates turned the world on its head.
Please no comments about him being an average drummer. He was not! We praise guitarists who honor the song and know how to play simply, with space etc. Ringo served the song.
Would Come Together, In My Life, Ticket to Ride, Get Back, etc. be the same songs without his drums? There are many others but you get the idea. There are numerous YouTube videos on the subject.
An early happy birthday shout out to Sir Richard.

That guy has lived a pretty sweet life. Good for him. He is remarkably spry for his age.

Ringo is not a "good" drummer...........Ringo is a GREAT drummer.
I used to think he was an "adequate" drummer, because the first drummer I ever played with (and still do 55years later) is so good, but, having now played with SO MANY mediocre drummers over the years, I have come to recognize and appreciate Ringo's talents. No, he's not Keith Moon or Carl Palmer, but he's solid and effective. I've seen his All Starrs twice now, and will again if ever possible, and he's STILL GOT IT!
Many eighty-year-olds are relegated to "rockin'" on the front porch......Ringo still does it from a drum riser.
    Happy Birthday, sir! ;)

Happy Birthday Mr. Starkey. Love the guy, his playing and songs, his positive attitude to life.

Sir Ringo of Starkey. When I first started listening to The Beatles in '75 ( I was 13)...an 80 year old was a decrepid old person who was wrinkled...most often disabled..and ready to meet their maker. Not any more ! I know many 90 year olds still playing an instrument and out playing golf...I hope to be in that bracket. To think Ringo was a very sick child...he's done well the boy, not only in living to a ripe age but still playing !

Ringo always makes me feel young because he's so full of energy and happy. As for his drumming prowess, he's among the best ever. He's a freekin' back-beat metronome. Keith Moon was nuts and, of course, paid the price for it. Sure there are other more complicated drum-machines (Stewart Copeland, Neil Pert,Carter Beauford..) but they rose to the music they play/played. Ringo couldn't have done more, or less, without being distracting. Plus, he's a great guy.

Aye, it may be a joke to you, but it's his nose. He can't help having a hideous great hooter! And his poor little head, trembling under the weight of it!

Funny how the ugliest guy in that band originally aged into the best looking one. I think Lennon would be quite ugly today if he were still alive. Conclusion: there is hope for ugly men.

Another case in point: Roger Waters (I'm talking about physical appearance, not personality...)
