I went on a Cars binge several nights ago.

Outstanding band and Ric was a big part of that.

Sad, in the day when a Cars tune came on I’d dime my radio and piss off the red necks in our shop. I’d get a talkin to by the super, do it again when any thing else came on that I’d like at the time.
Thanks for the tunes Ric. Hear Ya Later on down the road.

I love that first solo album, "Beatitude."

I'm also a fan of his next-to-last solo album, 1997's "Troublizing."

Saw them in the late '70s or early '80s at the Civic Auditorium in Omaha, Ne. That first album was awesome! Who was the model on the cover?

    RIP Ric.

    Sad news indeed.
Lots of great tunes and good memories...
I recall my eldest Sis bringing home their 1st album and upon seeing the back cover how they all looked like they were from another planet... and the music seemed to be as well.
    Stellar band. RIP Ric.

Great band, very distinctive and a household name for that generation. He was an important part of that success.

I saw this on the news just before heading to bed last night... so many memories in that music.

Not that it matters, that was Ben Orr singing that one.... and several of their other big hits.
There were times I couldn't tell the two apart, they really complimented each other well, and sadly both are now gone!

Billy idol suggested it was by his own hand in a tweet. I hope billy is wrong but I don’t have any reason to doubt doubt him. Very very sad.

The cars was an amazing band. Ric’s solo work was fantastic too.

First Cars album came out when I was a sophomore in college. I was all over it, and just about wore out the LP. Ric’s Songs were pretty much the pinnacle for pop music at the time. The articles on his passing label The Cars as new wave, but I think their appeal was broader than that. I’m saddened by his passing.

Just that he was a contemporary. They were on the same label. So he may have inside knowledge. As I said I hope he’s wrong.
