Rhiannon Giddens just may be the most talented female singer alive today. Really.

It's not just that she has a voice like your favourite dessert, but she can use it with so much taste and judgement.

Exactly! She doesn't just go for the "big note" at the end of the song like an American Idol singer, and she doesn't lapse into melisma (urban yodeling) like so many Whitney Houston wannabes. She just sings to the song, and does it better than just about anyone.

She was a voice major at Oberlin Conservatory. Unlike most of us folkies, she can actually sing the correct note. :D

She's a delight. Fine banjoist too...and a rarity, having studied the early minstrel-era banjo (which I play also).

She was a regular at a used book store I worked at in Greensboro, NC. A really sweet person.
