Seems he's under planned/ran out of $$ for his *1970 state if the art* recording studio, he believes he needs for his YouTube channel. Genuinely nice guy, admittedly average guitar player, but young enough still to drool over certain equipment that's on today's radar.
Given Rick Beato's friendship, how/why has his YouTube following exploded? Personality? Huge 14 yr old following? Quality video-manship??
I don't think he even owns a Tele...oh the shame!! 🙃

He’s an acquired taste- the snark sometimes gets to me but I also have a teenager in the house to my snark threshold is often used up by the time I can relax and watch some videos. In any case, he makes some good videos about topics I enjoy, so that’s enough for me.

I like him. He's a good teacher and communicates concepts well. I disagree with some opinions he's expressed, but he supports them so well that I feel forced to articulate why I disagree with him. That's a good thing.

I've probably seen large portions of a couple his videos, haven't watched any of them all the way through.

To me he doesn't have any more or less appeal than all the other YouTube guitar "personalities" or "influencers". If he's demo'ing a piece of gear I'm interested in, I'll fast-forward to the demo and listen to it. Otherwise, the blah-blah-blah is of zero interest or appeal to me.

Same goes for the whole lot of 'em.

Even someone like Tim Pierce who's a 1) flat-out awesome player and 2) could probably teach someone a lot about playing and 3) seems a likeable chap. But watching him blah-blah-blah into a camera for 20 minutes interspersed with playing a few licks along with backing tracks is just about 18 minutes too long for me.

I do get the Rhett-specific criticism of what you guys are calling "snark" in his delivery. It doesn't come across to me as snarky but rather a certain vocal inflection that's common among people of his cohort. The fact us older guys find it unpleasant is really just a generational thing, sort of like Southerners who find a New York or Boston accent grating (or Yankees who find out Southern drawls annoying).

His content doesn't my interest for very long. It may be his guitar playing, not sure but I rarely make it through more than a couple of minutes.

Hi.

Ha ha, I thought this was going to be appeal as in 'appeal for money.' The first sentence didn't help.

Hey, maybe it is? Do I need to check?

I started checking out Rhett's and Beato's stuff around the same time. After a few months I developed a distaste for them both. I really can't stand the grandiose "eye-catching" titles of these videos. Realized Rhett doesn't have much to offer me, personally, and moved on.

I do occasionally still watch some of Beato's vids where he breaks down individual songs. Some interesting stuff, there (although some of the songs he claims are "great" are arguably absolute crap).

Yeah, we watched the dozen or so Rick Beato "greatest song" breakdowns that happened to be songs we thought were great. Been waiting a few months to see if he ever does another genuinely (IMO) great song again.

Youtube Guitar person Format:
- Clickbait title of something discovered. Ex. "The Best <Something>" or "Avoid <something> it destroys tone" or "Unboxing this awesome <thing>" or "I made a mistake <Mia Culpa>"
- Expert Bonefides Ex "I've been doing <this thing> for years and..."
- My Journey, "It's only when I tried <something>, I realize the magic of...", "I've always used <something> wrong and now I know..."
- Summary, "This may not work for you, but, this <thing> is the something you have to try"

I'm not saying it's bad, it's just a format I notice...

The thumbnail also has to be clickbait-ish, with an eye catching graphic, like a constipated guitar face with a bright and bait-ish text overlay.

YouTube is kinda the logical end of the line from 3 network channels to no gatekeepers. Yeah we didn't like the gatekeepers. Now we have robotic ones that let almost* anyone one.

Whats suffered is there is no more writing. Idiots ramble in front of a camera. The better ones edit. But honestly having an idea of what you want to say, delivering well, having interesting stuff to talk about... All takes time and is heavily disincentivized in the current scheme.

Not saying i want just three channels. But there aint gonna be weekly TV shows destroying a car a week on a youtube budget.

I do wish folks would at least have an outline and follow it.
