Alright another update. During the week I pressed in the fretsI have an old 10 press drill thats perfect for that. If it breaks I'll only cry just a bit hehe. I buy my frets pre radiused because I haven't got around to making a fret roller yet. I overbend them just a hair by hand. For this time I used CA glue and I have to say if you are careful it's cleaner than using wood glue like I've been using.

After that I filed flush and beveled the ends. I always go for 25 degrees. I find 35 makes the string too close to the edge and often slips. I leveled right away and was really surprised how little it needed it. But I did it anyways. Crowned and polished right away because, why not lol? No pictures of that though
Now I went to shaping the neck. I built a simple jig to hold the neck at an angle so I could plane the taper on the back using the UN-safe-t-planer. I hate that tool but I have to admit it makes the job alot easier and more precise. before I used to do the taper on the ROSS and it was always a guess at best for me.

When this was done I went to shaping the neck. I go the facet way, but I draw by hand the profiles (using Fender templates) and mesure all by hand. I have no idea how to use a computer to do that. Went at it with the shinto rasp and in like 30 minutes all the facets were done excluding the transitions

Did the transitions and sanded everything smooth

and thats it the neck is done needs final sanding and finishing

Now for the finishing of the neck it sounds weird but I actually like z-poxy. It gives a nice color and is relatively fast to do. I always go for a satin finish so it will be sanded up to 1500 and left like that. I've done 2 like that and really prefer that to tru oil.

And for the body I got convinced to put the black veneer between the ash and the maple top so thats what I did. I planed down the body a bit because I would of been too thick and I really aim for 1.75 inch. Now for the venner I hope it will be ok. I dont have a vacuum bag so I used a piece of plywood, alot of glue and almost all the clamps I own.

Thats where I'm at right now. Next will be finish sanding the neck and start work on the top. I need to get a small router bit for the selector switch and a base for the dremel. How thin do I need to go for the switch? Because for sure if I keep the top to 1/4 inch the switch will not be able to go full throw. I'll do that before gluing the top on.

So this is what a neck finished with z-poxy looks like. You need to do a couple of coats that have a certain thickness to it but not create runs. Sand between coats if you have specs of dust in the finish. Once lets say 3 coat have been applied with a spatula I sand with 1000 grit until all surface is matte, but without going thru the rezin. And then I do 1 last coat thinned down like 10:1. Apply, and then with a clean and dry rag (I use blue shop towel) buff gently in the direction of the grain until it becomes satin. You might have to do another application if some spots become matte. 20220415_140840.jpg 20220415_140833.jpg
Thats how I do my satin necks.

Alright guys I cant make up my mind. I'll be using a switch of some sort to switch my single humbucker from series/single/parallel. Should I use A tele 3 way switch or a mini switch dpdt on/on/on? I have both, and have room for both. I'm stalled right now.

One vote for tele switch. They’re easier to grab quickly in the middle of a song.
