Haven't been to this place in a while, and when surfing around I noticed there was a thread about Yoyoka, the Japanese kid who caused the stir with her drumming to "Good Times, Bad Times." (Robert Plant himself later praised her and said Bonham would've said "You go, girl" too.)

Anyway, jaws dropped at what she did in that video ... check out some of what she's done since.

This kid's either going to be an absolute star or burn out at 15. I hope it's the former.

This is her playing live with her family's jazz band. I think this is more impressive than the Zep clip because it's live, not in a studio to a recorded backing, and she's "driving the car" with no place to hide, basically.

    Oh, she's still adorable!
I like how she counts in (and waves out).
I hope this stays fun for her.

    Peace - Deeve

Yeah, it's obvious no one is putting a gun to her head making her do this (even though her parents are pro musicians). She's having a ball. The Communication Breakdown video where she kicks her left foot out shows she's having fun with it.

She also isn't just doing it by rote, either, she fully understands what she's doing. She actually posts drum instructional videos on her YouTube channel, and I saw a translation of one on another site and she very cogently and articulately is explaining how does the triple bass kicks.

I'm not her press agent posting six videos ... she's just unbelievably talented plus it bothers me when people say "today's kids aren't any good" or "they can't learn music." Same as always, if the drive and motivation is there, they can get it done.

She's got "it." I just hope she keeps "it." She did an interview with the CBC over the summer, said her heroes are Bonham, Chris Coleman and Benny Greb and that she her goal is to be "the best drummer in the world," but she wants to get involved in all aspects of the music business from studio production down to cover art. I'll be interested in seeing how it's played out about 2030.

Watch this one all the way to the end (after the song seems over).
