Hey Guys, I got one of the FSR Deluxe ash Teles last night. I've been wanting one for the nice, pure simplicity of them for a while now. The only thing I was wondering is, why is the control plate reversed? At first I thought maybe that was a nod to the original models but I don't see that in any pictures of 50's models. Is it a common modder's thing?

It's really just a curiosity because I actually like it better this way because I rarely come off the bridge pickup and it's nice having the volume knob closer to my pinky.

    Thanks

Its so you can do volume swells like Bill Kirchner.

It's purely to be able to get reach the knobs better.
Congrats on the tele, ash is awesome.

Ahh, I see his pics with it. Cool.

Works great for me too. I don't do a lot of musical style swells, but I do have my rhythm/lead positions for my no frills distortion amps.

Some say it should have been there all along and makes more sense. The "standard" layout is only standard because it's always been done that way. Change? We hate change!:lol::lol:

I looked at that same Tele, but went with a Baja instead. I could have that plate either way.

The first thing I did when I got Tele was reverse the control plate. The one thing I don’t like about my Thinline is that the switch is in a dumb place. I might get a custom pick guard made so I can reverse the controls on it.

I got a super deal on one of these FSR BSB a couple years ago and I love the reversed control plate. Actually I love a lot about this guitar. I did a couple cheap vanity upgrades (dome knobs, round tree) and a necessary (to me) pickguard swap for bakelite. The ceramic pickups sound pretty good to me. Maybe I just don't know any better. Thought about trying some PV, but I'm in no hurry. Other than that, I know American and other vintage style Tele have some real differences, but none that are worth $1000+ more to me.

Reversed the plate on both of my Teles. I just like it better that way.

Bill Kirchen...Terry Kath of Chicago fame, and others. I just ordered the same ash Tele, and can't wait for it to arrive. On my only other Tele, (a partscaster), I reversed the control plate on it, and found that I liked it better with volume knob in front, and the pickup selector in back.
