I'm gonna say no. There shouldn't be anything touching the springs or it'll dampen their vibrations and kill your reverb's sound. I just ordered a new reverb tank for my old Peavey Bandit. When I opened the package it had some foam padding that separated all the springs to keep them undamaged during shipping. I took this out, installed the reverb tank in my amp and it sounds great.

Yes, they were just there for shipping, and should have been removed. Maybe the previous owner put a new tank in and thought the foam was supposed to stay in.

Might be of use.

Translated...

The reverb was broken by a spiral-Hammond (built in 1967, with me still rumflog) replaced. Impedance standard, it deviates slightly from the original, but should work. If not, I've still got the coils of the original spiral and can modify it if necessary. The original reverb tank was probably in foam rubber suspensions, of which, however, after so many years, except a few crumbs was not much left. So I screwed the piece with rubber dampers on the chassis (original location).

Thanks P2, the entire reverb tank is completely suspended in foam in this Hohner. That foam is in good shape, it's the two strips that were inside I'm wondering about. I've never seen foam inside a tank (except as noted above for shipping of a new tank). The thing that has me wondering about this tank is that the springs (two) are very small diameter, like 2.5mm, much smaller than Accutronics tanks that we usually see. These small springs shake with the slightest touch, leading me to think that they need to be dampened.

Hi,

I recently picked up two of these amps, one in great shape (except for the vibrato that's working, but very quietly) and the other one still working i.e. producing sound...

What did you end up doing with the "springfoam" in the reverbtank? Do you still have the amp? Still like it? What do you use it for?
