I'm in total agreement on this one. I'm a plate convert these days as far as reverb is concerned. (When I'm not using a delay for slapback or dry for overdriven sounds.)
To me it sits in the mix better and I don't have some of the issues with it that I run into when trying to use a spring simulation. When I'm using a clean tone I tend to go for a "classic country" type sound and the plate reverb actually does the job admirably, IMO. The plate mode on my Boss RV-6 is just perfect for me, though if you're playing surf...spring is the sound for that genre.
    YMMV and all that. :)

I have the kit but it's not together. You make the pedal?

    Hermida two knob reverb 3.

Best I found yet for sounding like real springs.

TC Hall of Fame is excellent. Buy version one on ebay or reverb to save some bucks. I tested the spring setting against my 68 Princeton reverb and couldn't tell the difference. As others have pointed out you may prefer the plate setting -- I do. For me it's important to be able to set the reverb decay time -- I don't like long washy reverb as an always on effect.
