The only thing an old man can tell a young man is that it goes fast, real fast, and if you’re not careful it’s too late. Of course, the young man will never understand this truth. ― Norm Macdonald
So long to the man who gave us Turd Ferguson.
Very few comedians could tell a joke like MacDonald did.
Rest in peace, Norm. Thanks for the laffs!
This is sad news. His humor appealed to me without fail. No matter how crude he got.
Shocking and very sad. I enjoyed his brand of humor. His delivery was impeccable. Thanks for the laughs, Norm. Sorry you left so soon.
His death hit me more than most famous people, not sure why. Always dug him, his delivery.
I do have to say though... I don't get the adulation for the Sagat roast. Yeah, I know what he's doing... I just didn't find intentionally not being funny, funny. But I seem to be the outlier among those who loved him.
His take-down of the teacher/heckler at one of his live shows? That's some funny stuff there. Also liked him on SNL.
Anyway, RIP Norm, you were an original.
I started watching clips before bed. I still haven’t been to bed. So much material and hardly a dud. I also gave his Saget roast set another listen and my cat wasn’t into me cracking up at all. I don’t think he was being intentionally “unfunny”, I think he was just being funny. Mr. Macdonald, I mean; my cat is very serious.
RIP Norm. Watched clip after clip yesterday. This blows.
I had never heard him do his moth joke until it was posted nonstop on Twitter yesterday. It’s brilliant! Such a great wacky delivery of what is really such a silly dad joke.
Me too. Norm and Tom Petty hit me hardest, I think because there was nothing fake about them.
Norm was the most naturally funny guy I’ve ever seen, I’ll miss him.
One of his funniest ongoing jokes on SNL was when he would read a medical story about a study or research with obvious results…such as:
“A new study had discovered that smoking cigarettes can lower life expectancy by up to thirty years…this from the medical journal ‘DUH’…”
I also laughed myself silly on the joke, “A new list of the worst jobs in America has been published; last year’s worst job, ‘Crack W——’ has been replaced by another job, ‘Assistant Crack W——.’”
Who ate Bob Dole's peanut butter?!!!
Rest In Peace. He didn’t tell anyone he had cancer because he didn’t want to be treated differently. Tough guy who was a good comedian.
And of course he had a joke about it...
"I'm pretty sure, I'm not a doctor, but...I mean if you die, the cancer also dies at exactly the same time, so to me, that's not a loss. That's a draw."
Norm MacDonald bought the farm, E-I-E-I-O.
Too soon? Norm probably would've laughed at it.
I was sorry to read this. The SNL years with him were my favourite.
A favorite joke of his:
“Death is a funny thing. Not funny haha, like a Woody Allen movie, but funny strange, like a Woody Allen marriage”
