Andrea posted to his Facebook page. Hal is gone.

This one makes me very sad. I’d always hoped to meet him when I was spending a lot of time in Nashville back in the day. To me he was one of the most important and standout artists of the modern country movement. Just such an amazing singer and songwriter.

    He was (almost) a neighbor.
I believe he lived in nearby Blanco.
    Great singer/writer entertainer.
    RIP, and thanks, sir.

One of my favorites, and I've had the pleasure of seeing him in concert a number of times. One of the best song writers I know of. His lyrics are often deep and meaningful. "I Miss My Mary" is a great example.

    Rest in Peace Hal!

Past The Point Of Rescue was the album that got me listening to country music. One of my all time favorites.

    RIP Hal. You'll be missed

This explains my friend and former bandmate's facebook post earlier today. I can't honestly say I was a fan, or even knew who Hal was (country music isn't my thing), but the song my friend posted was a good one. RIP

When I would meet someone who had zero exposure to country or whatever you want to call what Hal did, and I thought they could be hipped to this music, I'd give them stuff by Marty Stuart and Dwight Yoakam and Joe Ely and Hal Ketchum to listen to, normally. If these players (whether they be soul or rock or blues or gospel based) responded to one or more of the four, I knew their minds were open and if I failed, I figured nothing was lost.

    Rest in Peace, Mr. Ketchum.

This one hits me hard. I played the “Sure Love” cassette til it wore out.

That’s one of my favorites too; I was really proud as a young teen when I figured out the intro (mostly correctly).

RIP Hal. Great voice, good songs and production.

We saw him a few times, from the local funky county fair to the Sheperd’s Bush Empire in London.

My wife saw him on ACL and told me to get his cd.

Saw him in his heyday years ago at the Oregon State Fair.

Always thought he was a great artist/songwriter.

RIP Hal, thanks for the great music.
