I have GarageBand on my iPad. My brother, 3,000 miles away, has GB on his Mac. We'd like to work on a couple of songs together. Does anyone know the best way to share the files so both people can edit? Couldn't find the answer after searching, though I'm guessing it's been asked before... Thanks.

I used a Google Drive account to share when I was doing recording with a friend 2 hours away. Just make sure the permissions are set to allow editing by both parties.

Uploading may take a while, FYI. Raw recordings are pretty big, and it multiplies with the number of tracks in use. We were seeing project files approaching the gigabyte range once multitracked drums got involved.

Thanks guys. Unfortunately, I'm working off iPad only - no laptop/desktop - so that video doesn't work for me (yes, I do have indoor plumbing and electricity). I thought that google drive would work, but it uploaded as a single audio file. Is there a secret to uploading as a multi-track file? Thanks.

Maybe you could share/export your new tracks individually as stems (audio files for each track) that your brother could import into his GB project. Then he could do the same and send them for you to bring into your GB project.

It's a bit kludgy, but it would work.

Is a matter of probability…
I work exclusively from an iPad and DropBox is your friend. Even the free account has a lot of storage. Most iPad daws will upload directly to DropBox and Sound Cloud. I've sent stems to places as far flung as Indonesia with the same ease and success as accross town. I'm discovering that the iPad has more advantages than pc for me. EVERYTHING is cheaper and easier to use. Please check out Auria and Amplitube for iPad as they are both far superior to GB imho... hope this helps...!

edit: you and your brother can use whatever daw you want. You are not limited to both using the same daw.

You'll need something like DropBox to move the files. As long as you share the source material and the GB project file there shouldn't be a problem.

But I don't know if iPad and the desktop GB's are interchangeable.
