That combination of Bernard and Nile has always been a favorite of mine. There was a lot of great music from the so called "disco era"... Chic was always one of my favorites.

That is a very sad video to watch.... Bernards refusal to cancel that show due to illness ultimately contributed to his death later that evening. He should have been in a hospital.

True statement- he's the reason I became a musician. As a kid I LOVED disco, and especially Chic. I got a bass for Christmas when I was 14 and soon was hooked. Guitar didn't come until years later. I credit Bernard for giving this white dude an ear for the groove.

Similar story for me... but with Nile Rodgers. To this day when I am at a sound check or trying something at a music store my "clean guitar riff of choice" is Le Freak. It turns a lot of heads :D

Bernard and Nile are monsters of groove... I wish I could think of something more to say, but they define it, and encompass it all, and there aren't enough words.

If anyone is interested, Bassline Publishing in the UK has a book of transcriptions and analysis of both Nile and Bernards parts and lines - it's the only organized material I've ever seen, and it's an encyclopedia of funk.

Just finished Niles' book called Le Freak. Un-putdownable. Great book

Bernie Edwards was a damned excellent bassist! He is sorely missed. I am a huge fan of Nile Rodgers, too. His funk is THE funk for me.

But no mention of Tony Thompson? He was a monster drummer! All of Chic was great.

Thanks for posting. Watching the current drummer and bass player go at it is a thing of amazingness. But oh my Bernard!
