I find they come in very handy for chilly nights in the sleeping bag
shorts year round, unless jury duty.
More of a trekker/backpacker. I have gear for cold nights. Sweats are too bulky to pack well and aren’t nearly warm enough for sleeping up near the tree line.

I have thread regret
I always wear shorts regardless of time of year. I only wear pants at work or when required for a function or something. As soon as I get home from work I put shorts on. More comfortable.

In the days of Covid, my pants are usually pajama pants. All-day almost every day.

Jury duty, eh?
I've been called for jury duty one million times and have served on many juries.
I must look the part.
The first time I went for jury duty in College Station, combined pop ~ 150,000, I was gobsmacked to see how people were dressed. I was wearing my usual Dockers and a button front shirt.
The rest of the pool were in wife beaters, zebra skin tights, flip-flops, bike shorts and worse.
Astonishing! Apparently it was the usual as the judge(s) didn't say a word.
Back in the day, I recall judges sending people home to change clothes for something suitable for court.
can't do that down here.. you will look lawyerly..
