Has anyone had any interesting results with a relic-ready finish?
Any opinions or thoughts? Thanks
What's a relic ready finish?
I assume thin nitro possibly with 2 different finishes. applied very thin. with a minimum top coat.
The thing about these thin finishes is although they repidly show wear, they also rapidly continue to degrade. I've got nothing against relic finishes (I have two Fender CS Time Machines), but the super-thin finishes look convincing for a short time and then just get too raggedy.
I think it's a marketing friendly term, no more, no less.
I actually demoed one of them shortly after they came out. It was a beautiful guitar, but for a bit more change I personally would go with maybe their Journeyman or similar, for the reasons stated by Peegoo. I ended up walking out with WW's '55 Thin Skin Tele. I've gigged it maybe 10-12 times over the 2+ years I've had it, and the thin skin label is no joke. The finish in certain areas has disintegrated / flaked off far too quickly.
