Does anybody know what they use to tint the bare wood after sanding the finger wear marks?

It looks like it varies quite a bit from brown to black. I assume it's just up to the person doing the relicing?

Tea, shoe polish, dirt form Mike Campbells back yard?

Mine is quite black. I rubbed it a little with a damp white microfiber and the towel turned black rather quickly.

    Just curious.

I don't know what they use at Fender, but you can get that exact finish with the vinegar & steel wool method.

    Remember to use fresh solution.

If you try to use any that's more than a few days old, it comes out WAY too black.

Dale Wilson uses stain...I saw a YouTube video where he talked a little bit about his relic techniques. Greg Koch interviews him. Seems like the video was on the Wildwood web site but I could be wrong. Anyway, he stains the wood after he removes the finish.
