For sure. The list of pickers who cite Redd as one of the greats is pretty impressive. As far as a cool hang, I can attest to that for my short time hanging out with him. He's a genuinely nice, cool guy for sure.

Excellent interview. Country music really isn't my thing, but man what a great player he is. And seems like a genuinely nice, down to Earth guy.

Thank you! Yeah, he's one of those who you can't help but like. Also, if you've never heard him lay down some jazz and swing, you're missing out!

Redd is the REAL DEAL & he's a nice guy to boot.
He shows up & does a gig, just like you see him anywhere else.
Thank goodness he doesn't show up on stage looking contrived, like that guy that dresses up in a suit, sunglasses, shiny shoes, and the slicked back hair full of Vitalis, or cooking oil, etc.
    GO Redd ..........

And one thing that I think you really don't get to experience unless you talk to him is that he's funny as all hell too! He has a fantastic sense of humor.

I remember Redd posting on this site that he and Eric were doing a set on a popular late night talk show , he was quite stoked and was humbled by the expirience as it was quite impromptu , I remember the post well

Big Redd fan here. I have most, if not all of his CD's and DVD instructional video. I lived in Austin and San Marcos for a few years (a long time ago) and have always wanted to take my wife there to visit. The trip would have to include a live Redd show somewhere. I believe he quit his weekly gigs at the Continental Club. I'd love to see him with Cindy Cashdollar, another big hero of mine.
    Thanks for posting the interview.

Thanks for posting - I'd love to meet this guy in person.
It sounds like he'd treat my dumb questions with a modicum of respect.
That said, I think I might trim back my dumb questions, since the realistic answer is some variation on "you'll figure that stuff out when you're playing guitar five hours a day, and until then, it doesn't really matter" - but he'd probably say it in a way that didn't make me feel like a wounded child.

    Peace - Deeve

They are both super humble guys! I love hearing these types of stories.

Ahhh... Yeah.. Not only did he quit his weekly gig at the Continental Club, but he actually left Austin. He has moved to a beautiful piece of property in Virginia. That's where we got together for this interview. My understanding is that he does plan on gigging after COVID and all, but it will likely be a bit more spread out.

Haha, well, believe it or not Redd and I talked about this exact thing in the interview! Starts at about 29:20 specifically.

I wonder if he's playing (out) anywhere these days? He has had a regular slot at a club in Austin. Surely, with the Covid they have sh*t-canned that.

The last I heard he was moving to SW Virginia somewhere. Don’t know if he’s playing out or not but there are some great outdoor places in VA to play. Hopefully he’s getting out and playing if he desires to.

That's correct. We shot this interview at his new place in Virginia. He's got a great piece of property out that way. With COVID he's pretty well locked down, but he is doing a livestreamed show this coming Thursday (September 24th). Check out his Facebook page for the link!
