Hey everyone! I hope this is the right subforum for this post -- I got together with Redd Volkaert recently for an interview / some playing. I have a small YouTube channel where I interview professional guitar players about how they make a living playing music.

Redd was my latest interview, and he was so much fun to hang out with and talk to. Thankfully, I don't think I have to explain to this forum why he's so great! Anyway, here's the video (there's a tiny bit of us picking at the end during the "credits"):

Nice, huge fan. Thank you and sub'd.

One of my favorite clips of Redd in his natural environment, just some little place in Austin, his solo here is unreal. Faron (et al) classic.

I would be some intimidated to talk to him. He comes off as a nice guy but I don't think he suffers fools well....and I'm an idiot! Thanks for posting this!

That's a great clip! We did a bit of picking together after the interview, and the stuff he played just absolutely blew me away. He's incredible.

It's funny, because you're 100% right. Redd is one of the nicest people I've ever met. He was humble to the point of being self-deprecating, generous with his time, and super easy to talk to. However, HE'S STILL REDD VOLKAERT! Haha.

Great clip, featuring the late singer Gary Claxton.
I had the great pleasure of playing with him a few times.
    RIP, Gary.

and speaking of Claxton, he did a great version of Hickory Wind with Joe Goldmark but then he was a really really good singer...

I'm not sure how active he is around here anymore but I DO remember someone possibly trolling about someone or something and everybody, including Redd was giving thoughtful answers and genuinely trying to help. After 7 or 9 pages Redd threatened to "Stomp your *ss!" And then the thread was closed. My toes curled just reading it....Dude, you play in your living room and he's Redd Volkaert...if he told me to play a relic PRS through a Crate practice amp with reissue Jensen speakers, I'd listen.

Sadly, I believe that someone would do that. Having even the small YouTube channel that I do, I deal with obvious trolls from time to time.

Thank you!! It's already been shot and mostly edited, so I'll go ahead and say it -- in a few weeks I have one with Johnny Hiland coming out. Johnny's a good buddy, and I don't think anyone on this forum needs to be introduced to how good of a picker he is. Thanks for subscribing!

No kiddin'. Buddy of mine sent me that clip back when it was new, told me he'd gigged a little with Gary LONG before in San Francisco, I'd never heard of him. I come back to it often, wish I'd have seen him live. By all accounts an amazing person. Obviously an amazing talent. RIP

I was watching an interview awhile back, it wasn't with Redd but about him,and when guys like Eric Johnson, Brad Paisley and even Clapton were in town, they'd grab a guitar to go sit in with Redd. He's a guitar player's guitar player and evidently, he's just a cool hang. That's something to aspire to.
