There's a guy in a FB sales group who scraped all the paint from a '52 tele and collected it into a bag. He is now selling it with the 'advice' of "melting it down and repainting your tele for authenticity".

Is that really a thing? Would that really work? Would it look any good?

Here are some other suggestions for him.

-Melt down the tuning machines and have someone machine them into new turners.
-Melt down the plastic pickguard, volume and controls and have them re-molded into new parts.

Actually, this is much like the dealer FSR Blues Junior with a cabinet made from the distillers barrel wood or the craze regarding “recycled” wood to make guitars, etc.
My brothers house has interior beams made from recycled wood.

I mean, if this is all of it, the coats are going to be VERY thin.

Got the part number any where?.
... or we gotta do the 'carbono14' to date that garbage.

Foolish idea on origin, not bad the second... funny.
I made my own mistake peeling this one years ago..
Still figuring out what to do. Bad decision.

If he is so into authenticity, why did he scrape the paint off of a 52 Tele in the first place?
And if it was to repair or refinish, shouldn't he have melted down his old paint to reuse? It is only authentic to that guitar afterall...
