I'm sure this has been asked before but are there recordings of pre-fame/Experience Jimi Hendrix playing alongside King Curtis, The Isley Brothers, and/or Little Richard?

Any recommended recordings, albums, or compilations?

I'm curious as to how his playing in those ensembles compares to his later work.

There are a few tracks on the first disc of the West Coast Seattle Boy: The Jimi Hendrix Anthology box set.

Lately I've been on a JH kick. I've even got a Vox wah on a deal just recently, and got an order in on a fuzz face too. I've been doing some reading on his early days etc. and I'm really diggin' your question, and the responses you're getting! Cool man!

This is killer, lots of Albert Collins feel...sometime between '65 and '66. Albert's first album came out in '65 and Jimi picked right up on it. In those days, a lot of pics show him with a Jazzmaster and sometimes a Duosonic...who knows, but it sounds great

When the classic rock band I was in broke up at the end of 2018, I set about learning Hendrix songs and techniques. In May, I auditioned for a country band and got the gig. I thought to myself, “well, that was four months wasted.”

But, the chord inversions and major scale licks I learned from Hendrix have really helped me with my new genre.

He really was a great player and showman.

Exactly my goal! I've played JH on and off for years, but I've never really focused on him and his style to say that I ever really "got it". So... in an effort to make myself a better player I figured if I can get anywhere near proficient, even on a medium level scale, I have no doubt it will help me. I played country for decades, dabbling in RnR on and off, but today I'm in a classic rock band. I'm carrying my own but if I can learn a trick or 2 from "the man" all the better ;)
