    Hi all

I’m building a Tele for a friend as a nice surprise to cheer him up as he’s not got any work at the moment.

I know he likes classic dirty (not hard rock or metal) rock tones and he doesn’t have a fancy pedal set-up with a noise gate.

He loves the tone of my P90 guitars so that kind of range and not muddy but regular single coil fit.

I think he’d benefit from mid to hot power noiseless Tele pickups so he gets a strong signal and no noise.

I’ve never used any noiseless Tele pickups as I prefer traditional. I don’t want to spend a fortune.

    The brief:

    · Regular S/S config

    · Standard 3/way regular 250 pots and harness

    · Good mid to hot power noiseless pickups

    · Not too expensive

    · Buy off the shelf now in the UK.

    thank you

    R

G&L MFD pickups - not off the shelf but $70 mail order.
Or, maybe just Fender Tex-Mex. They’re as hot as I need and, with a bit of shielding and attention to good grounding, essentially noiseless in my tele plus relatively cheap.

I think DiMarzio Area Hot T bridge pickup could tick few boxes there. I like mine. Might not be the twangiest one out there, but still got the character with some hotter middy gnarl.

    E: With 250 pots, could check Area T / 615 too. I'm using 500K pots with Area Hot T

Fralin Split Blade "High Output" noiseless.

    No, they're not hot-hot.
Just slightly more output and certainly not mid rangey! They are $$ tho. Sorry

I did this 4 years ago or so,
living room level through the telephone, but they still sounds good. Either a ss or tube amp. Clean:

Fralins are awesome, but they are not inexpensive.

I love Wilde pickups and have owned a bunch but the only one I would describe as “mid to hot power” (like the OP is looking for) is the L298.

I’ve owned an L-48TL for nearly a decade, it’s really versatile, sounds great, but I need to knock the treble down at the amp or with a resistor or the tone pot (more than with my traditional Tele single coils). It’s not a problem so long as you choose a neck pickup that likes the same EQ treatment.

    OP here.

Thanks all again for your suggestions

I found a used pair of used Dimarzio Area T (Hot bridge) on Reverb to try in it. They'd be too hot for me but I think they'll suit him. Let's see!
