Hey people,

Only wah I'm familiar with is an original Crybaby. Wondering what else is out there that might tickle my fancy:

Requirements:

+ Not much bigger footprint than a Crybaby. Pedalboard space is at a premium.
+ Smooth, quiet travel.
+ Easy to turn off and on. Switchless? How does that work? My Crybaby doesn't always engage the switch when I push down on it.
+ Reliable and made to last.
+ Jacks and power on the end of the unit. Absolutely hate where mine are located.
+ Less than $200.

Let me know what you guys are using. Kinda excited since I haven't shopped for a wah in 40 years.

Thanks

This doesn’t tick all those boxes but if you want something that just sounds dam good take a look at the Ben Wah by BBE ( or Axis wah by vert…). The switch is great and can be had for a good price. Much “throatier” than a cry baby

Just FYI: if you open up your crybaby and adjust the switch so that it's up just a little bit higher, it will switch reliably. The rubber bumpers they have to cushion the end of travel can prevent the switch from properly switching if it's just a little bit low.

If you can swing an extra $70 and don’t mind sacrificing top jacks, I own and highly recommend the Xotic XW-1. There are controls for bias, Q, resonance, and frequency range, so you can make it sound like any other wah out there. It’s built like a tank and has one of the smallest wah footprints on the market.

None of your criteria have anything to do with the sound.

In any case, I'd recommend a Teese RMC wah. He is a genius who has elevated the Crybaby/Vox circuit to the next level, and this is coming from someone who spent years tweaking the circuit in my Crybaby trying to make it sound right. I have the RMC6, which *NAILS* the 60s Hendrix/Cream wah sound, but as far as I can tell, his other designs are great as well.

I own this Wah. Missing some of your check-boxes. But I recently received this from Phil Taylor- Effectrode.

Here at Effectrode we build the machines. We build the machines that enable guitarists discover that elusive guitar tone they’ve always dreamt of, so they can break free and truly soar to make their music. Our machines include miniaturised versions of classic vintage tube compressors, advanced multi-channel high voltage vacuum tube preamps housed in a pedal, and mind-bendingly weird & wonderful twin LFO modulation effects (made with tubes, of course). And we’re working on several cool new designs at this very moment, like our tube delay, and tube ‘Strat-o-wah’, which is in the prototyping phase, eagerly waiting to fly. But please be patient. We’re reaching for the impossible, or at least the very improbable: The skills and technology required to build these machines became obsolete sometime during the latter part of the last millennium—we’re working hard to keep it alive. What we do is not easy, but these pedals will become a reality—we promise.
