I recently found the Ernie Ball ribbon cables, which I love for their flat, right-angle jacks and flat, flexible cable. However, they only come in 3in., 6in, 12in and 24in lengths, meaning that much of my large pedalboard would require cables much longer than I actually need (because the next size down would be way too short), resulting in a horrific mess underneath my pedalboard (the board has hole I can run cables through).

So I think I may be better off cutting my own cables, hence my request for recommendations. Here's my wish list:

- Highest quality possible. I use a loop switcher so all the cables won't be a factor all the time, but just the same, I don't want to make any sacrifices tone-wise.
- Right-angle jacks, as flat as possible. The back of the loop switcher is crowded.
- Solder-free. I can solder just fine, but man I hate doing cables, and I need a lot of cables.
- Reliable. Once put together my board tends to stay that way, so things won't be moving a lot. But I don't need to constantly chase down bum cables.

I will also happily accept recommendations for pre-made cables that fit the above and come in a ridiculous variety of lengths.

I bought several sets of these off Amazon, and have been VERY impressed. I bought them specifically for my loop switcher. Don’t let the “value price” fool you. These are high quality. Maybe not as high quality as George L’s or Lava, but they are damn close. They could charge double and they’s still be a great value.

Oh wow, those plugs are crazy-low profile. Thanks!

If you can sling a soldering iron, you are best off making your own set. It will be a cleaner installation by making the exact lengths and using the ends that you want. I am not a fan of any solderless kits, but many love them. I just don't trust them and they all admit to needing to replace the ends at some point down the road.

If you are not good with an iron and don't mind reaching into your pockets a bit, you can order custom lengths from Rattlesnake Cables and be good for life with their warranty. I have their instrument and speaker cables, but not the patch cables and they are very strong cables. I already built my own patch cables years ago with Mogami and Switchcraft ends and haven't expanded my board to where I needed to add anything since.

I am currently using the same stuff Lowspeid speaks of in his post. They have worked great for me - rewired and entire board into a loop switcher. I'm probably 6-9 months in now and they work great for me. You have to use their cable with the plugs as the insulator is a specific thickness to work with the set screw in the plug. The coloration on some plugs was my doing.
