I read the thread a few days ago and don't remember seethe Micro Cube as an option. I probably missed it. Anyway,bit a very nice bedroom/work amp. Dead quiet. It mimicks 6 different amps and has built in effects. If you compare a modest inexpensive direct plug in amp, the amp is part of the 1/4 inch input jack, to the Joyo Jam Buddy, well the micro cube 8s like comparing it to the Joyo.

I use my Joyo every day but when I plug into the Micro Cube, it's s wow factor a million. It's really nice and can be gotten used for $100 or new for $169.

Both are portable btw. The Joyo comes with an internal battery that last about 3 hours before needing a recharge. They supply the cable. The Micro Cube runs on 8 AA batteries and it also comes with a power cable.

I love the Joyo for it's size, built in battery, and it's a 3 channel amp. Quite the steal for 99 bucks.

I like the Micro Cube for it's big full sound, the 6 amp emulator, and it's loudness. Keep in mind this can be so quiet you could pretty much use it anywhere. Again, like the Joyo, it's well worth the cost new but I'd buy it used for 99 bucks rather than new for 175.

You could do what I did and buy one of each. I bought the Joyo new and the Micro Cube for 85 bucks used. Both for under 200 and should I ever decide I don't like one or the other, I'd just sell it . But that day, should it ever arrive, is a long time down the road.

the strum buddy showed up last night. i charged it up overnight and fired it up awhile ago . it sounds better than i thought it would and has overdrive, chorus and reverb. the OD is pretty nasty, kinda more fuzz than od. the chorus and reverb are pretty cool.

the question for me is how long it will work before it dies, and how long the suction cup will hold. i would not use this device on a guitar with a real nice finish because it will almost surely leave a ring on the finish.

overall, right now, it's pretty much exactly what i wanted and sounds better than i expected.

i had a thread about needing something i could use at work, low volume but loud enough i can hear it. i thought i had found my solution by ordering a Michael Kelly ported guitar, but it isn't really any louder played unplugged than any solid body. but i like the guitar a lot otherwise.

so i'm going to give in and get one of those little battery powered amps with a tiny speaker you plug right into the input jack. i don't expect any of them to sound stellar, but i just wanted to know if anybody here had any bad experiences with any particular brand? some electronic gadgets work and work forever, and some fall apart the 2d time you use it.

let me point out that i'm not looking for a headphone amp. that won't work for me, i have to be able to hear what's going on around me.

Doesn't quite fit your ask, but I can highly recommend the Positive Grid Spark Mini amp. Bluetooth, rechargeable, big sound at low volume. I play through it late at night without bothering neighbors. The Spark phone app adds countless tones, but the 4 onboard tones are perfectly useful. Light and good-looking. Genius, if you ask me. Check it out maybe.
