Recognising a guitarist from a single note

    So I've been thinking, when BB King plays a note I can tell it's him 100% of the time. He makes the guitar speak, it's his voice. It's so much more than just picking a note, it's the way the note is picked, the vibrato, the snap of the string, no note is ever played carelessly.

    Derek Trucks and Matt Schofield are the same to me, their voices are instantly recognisable. These players are so rare and probably come around only once in a decade I think.

    Who are the others out there that have that one note recognition for you?

    Metheny, Frisell, Holdsworth, Beck, BB King, Santana, Eric J., Lukather, Eddie.....the list goes on.

    To me it's one of the ultimate markers of having your own "voice" on the instrument. I'm not even much of a Santana fan, but one note and I know it's him.
