I hope that I'm not out of line here but I can't help sharing this listing. This partscaster has been for sale for a few months on my local CL. Here's the verbiage...

"Reduced to $400. This is the lowest I can go. This is a tele style guitar relic'd by a professional guitar artist. It IS NOT a Fender. He made it from parts and did a great job. I have installed a little hotter hand wound Alnico V bridge pickup that sounds great. The neck is super slick and comfortable. It's a great playing and sounding tele that gets a lot of attention. I have it tuned to Open G for my Keef chords, that's why there is no top E string.I will include a gig bag with purchase of the guitar. I accept cash and PayPal straight money transfer."

I'm not against a tasteful relic job but...REALLY?!!!!

I think that just proves how subjective art is. The problem is, that isn't art. It is, uh, sorry, can't say the word here.

I would never buy jeans with holes put in them, either.

There is a difference between relic'd and wreck'd.

Wearing a Tom Brady jersey is fun. Trying to convince others that you are Tom Brady is sad. All this relic stuff just comes across like unearned street cred, like a lie. And I just don't get the appeal of trying to perpetuate a lie. Earn your own scars, wear them proudly.

Oh, and get off my lawn.

    Ahh...you guys are snobs! :p

The attempt at buckle rash on the back does look less like play wear and more like the guitar was used in some kind of Satanic ritual, though.

And the 40 dollar Kmise neck is kind of offensive.

But TBH, from ten feet away it doesn't look too bad, and if it's a player...why not? I'd offer 300...and if it's a dog I could part it out and make that money back pretty easily.

Looks a helluva lot better than some of the belt sander specials I've seen.

This sums it up perfectly. That Tele is so extremely relic'd it looks false, forced.

Like buying the Joe Strummer tribute Tele... Strummer was all about authenticity, so there's nothing faker - nothing says 'I'm a faker trying to look authentic' quite like a Joe Strummer tribute guitar.

The Tele above is exactly the same. To put all that wear on a guitar you'd have to have played it for about four sets a night in the roughest of dives every night for about 80 years.

It's an "express relic job". Just a quick dip in the neighbor's 40 year old wood chipper. Ya just gotta be careful when you pull it back out.;)

ummm... I wouldn't want it even if it were given to me for free... But! Pay me to take it? Sure, why not, I could use another p.o.s. guitar to light on fire before smashing it to pieces on stage at my next show... hmmm maybe sort of a Pete Townsend / Jimi Hendrix tribute thing...

Relic in any form other than natural wear gets a "Really ?" from me.... and natural wear is a defect requiring a discount.. so I don't have much to add.

It's blatantly obvious that the majority of the "relicing" was done with a chisel or a flathead screwdriver etc. which I find strange. How many aged guitars did you ever see that's been hacked on like this? I mean to each their own but...DAYUMN.
I forgot to mention earlier that I would hope that a relic treatment should never be done to any production guitar. If you do it to an American Tele your stupid and if you do it to a MIM or Squier you probably destroy any value. It's fine for a partscaster if that's your thing as long as it's not misrepresented. This one does not fall into that category. It has a Fender logo on the headstock and I find that offensive. JMHOYMMV

That neck looks like it has lots of pencil lead.

Ow - sounds like you're gonna vote "no" on my poll, should I get a tear-drop tattoo on my right (face) cheek)?
What else can I do for some false street cred?

Poserism is always a bad idea, but my general rule of thumb is that any tattoo on the face and neck is a "hard yes." I see no downside.

It's the rare Middle Earth edition, delicately hand-relic'd. By orcs.
