You can get these a lot of places, I got this one from a restaurant supply place near my house. The burner and four cans of butane cost about fifty bucks.

This storm is about to run roughshod over my home in 2 hours. I'll toss a paper airplane into it and perhaps it'll drop onto your doorstep in Atlanta.

    "Water".

Place two heavy-duty liners in a large trash can and fill it with water. Add 1/4 cup of bleach and give it a stir.

Keep a lid on it and keep your hands out of it (use a dipper or small pot).

A really great source of drinking water in an emergency is the tank of a toilet.

    The TANK, I said!

...stay safe, hope everyone rides out the storm. Y'all have taken the brunt of all the hurricanes this year.

Soooo.... tips from Florida regarding natural disasters whatever the case may be:

Use a cheap plastic painters tarp to line the bathtub with and fill it with water

Keep all your important documents and old cell phone, flashight, meds and a usb charger in a backpack as a "go bag"

Always keep a few protein bars laying around.... they require no heat or effort

Sounds like a small generator would be a smart investment.

We have one here because the power goes out a lot and it's no fun when the wind is blowing 4 degrees outside.

About a month ago something I heard disturbed me a little. Following that, my daughter was going to CostCo and I told her to pick up 50lbs of dry beans, 25lbs of Navy, 25lbs of Great Northern or Pinto. Plus 50lbs of Jasmine Rice.
I told her of my concern, that with a family of 8 and one on the way, we should have some backup food in case things get weird.
She bought the 50 lbs of beans and 50lbs of rice.
She added a case of Spam and a case of Vienna Sausages.
    5 cases of bottled water.
We’ve never stocked piled groceries before, but with 8 +1 of us I got to thinking about a little insurance.
Then it hit me, What about the baby, my first great grand child? I said what if the mother can’t breast feed? My daughter said, don’t worry we have enough females in the family that we can take care of that. I said how? She said don’t worry about it, we got that covered.
So now I feel a little better, but I think we need more. Is that a never ending cycle?

You can never go wrong with Vienna sausages.
