RAT Ruetz mod question....011 Guage?

I just completed Vintage RAT build and decided the only mod I wanted was the Ruetz mod on a 1k trim pot. However, instead of replacing the 47ohm resistor with the trim pot I replaced the 560ohm resistor in that network. The results seem quite pleasing and I might leave it this way. Would I be better off moving the trimr to the 47ohm spot,or am I basically achieving the same thing with the 560ohm/1k trimr swap?

I'll hazard a guess: you're going to achieve a different tone by altering the opposite resistor because the bypass caps are setting the gain differently for different frequencies.

I'm still learning this stuff, so again, only a guess.

I tried the Reutz mod once and it wasn't my cup of tea.

^ Yeah, thats my hunch too. It doesnt seem to be neutering the gain like the Reutz mod is proported to do as much as warming and tightening up the distortion. I'm not sure what I've done but I may just leave it.

I have a spice model I did a long time ago and ran a sim of both the 46ohm resistor replaced with a 1k pot, and the 560ohm resistor, also with a 1k pot.

Varying the 47ohm resistor effects the higher frequencies, the 560ohm effects the lower frequencies. Both create a resonant peak as they approach zero resistance.

^ Thanks for that! I'm liking the 1k trimmer in the 560ohm spot at full 1k resistance,sounds great to me.
