The Fat Rat likes to feed on 9v or 18v. I like the Fat/ Mosfet options this pedal has on tap.

Got a Rat, or rat clone?

Got a turbo rat I bought used around 15 years ago. It's a keeper. Don't use it much, but it's a great pedal.

I've got a humble $60ish brand new Rat 2 and it's one of my primary distortion pedals. It's super versatile and probably the most "built like a tank" pedal I own. It's truly awesome how great these affordable proven pedals are.

I hunted down an LM308 that I was going to swap into it, but after playing it for a while decided that I like it just fine as is.

The RAT2 rocks. Awesome bang for the buck pedal!

I have a small box one from 86. Great pedal that I used pretty exclusively for dirt through the 90s. Nowadays I change dirt boxes pretty frequently because I have a short attention span and because stomp boxes have become so cheap. Lately I’ve been playing a Nux plexi clone that is pretty rad.

I have a ProCo Rat I bought new in '05. My only dirt pedal that's not specifically a fuzz.

I'm in (again) this has been covered here before.
If you don't know the history on your RAT pedal, this is the place to review.

Here is mine. I haven't fooled with a Pedal or a Pedal-Board for years. Pedals didn't help my playing ability so I kind of diverted my attention.

The second picture shows my solution to awkward reverse polarity issue.

‘85 white face. Picked up at a yard sale about 20 years ago for 10 bucks.

It does all the nasty things

The Fat Rat hit the mailbox today, and is connected to 18v at the moment. It's alive!!!

With the Pedaltrain Nano+ there's no pedal overhang above or below the board but difficult to see in photo. It's going to hop over to a double row Mr. Power pedalboard for placement.

I built my first Rat using a layout on the Tagboard Effects page, using an LM308 that may or may not be genuine, and I had it on my board for ages. I'm mostly using a recent stock Rat2 now. The Rat2 is a little more aggressive in the high mids--I like how it sits in a band mix--and it's also a bit less noisy than my homemade one.
