Totally an unimportant post here, so bear with me. I picked up a Vintera Road Worn 60s Strat last month. I know, I know... sacrilegious in a Tele forum. It plays beautifully. Looks great in its Firemist Gold nitro finish. But there’s something off...

    The smell.

Most of my other guitars have a nitro finish. The last Tele (Jimmy Page Mirror) and Broadcaster I bought still give off that pleasant vanilla-like odor. My Les Paul has zero odor, just like every other electric I’ve put my hands on.

But this Strat gives off a sort of chemically produced wood scent. Before you smart alecks say so - We all know these things are made of wood. The Strat gives off a woodier scent than my Gibson J-15.

Curious if anyone has any insight why this might be.

    Oh, and photos

All finishes outgas for a while, especially if they've packed in enclosed carton and packaging.

    It'll dissipate.

I agree with the finish outgassing , atleast its not a mouldy smell from being in storage for ever

Love it. I bet a Tele in that color would be gorgeous.

Gorgeous Strat. I agree that the finish is outgassing. No problem I see.

If it came in a hard case, there's often a chemical smell from the adhesives used to stick the foam and baby unicorn fur to the inside of the case. That smell gets onto/into the guitar and takes a while to dissipate.

Leave the case open (stand it on end) with a small fan blowing air into it for a few days. It will be much better afterwards.

It didn’t come with a case. I do leave it on a stand for easy accessibility.
