Turkeys In The Mist - Foggy Bottom Boys
Two summers ago we had a Guinea Fowl hen show up with
the flock of local turkeys. She probably walked off
with them when the turkeys stopped by her farm.
They would show up a few times a day to clean up underneath
the bird feeders.
Guinea Fowl are known for going on walkabouts, and she probably
went back to her farm in the fall when the weather started getting cold.
We watched her with the turkeys from mid spring through late fall
everyday. We were hoping she found her way home
as opposed to coyotes getting her.
She had the toms puffed up all summer and was quite bossy.
She led the pack when they came out of the woods and
would at times corral them like a cattle dog would cattle.
I know this is a picture thread but with the Guinea Fowl showing up
recently in this thread, I thought I'd share these 2 short vids.
In this vid, I had just cleaned the windows, and when the light
was right outside, the turkeys would see their reflection in
the glass and start attacking their reflection. The bossy Guinea
Fowl hen would only put up with that for so long before she broke
up the fight. Hilarious.
Home Advisor commercial was on the TV
which was a coincidence with them knocking at the door.
The same Guinea Fowl Hen was laying on the ground on the left
in this vid, even though you can't see her in the vid. The puffy shirts
those toms were showing was mainly for her, although they also looked
like they were putting on a show for the hen turkey in the vid.
I just bought 1000 spikes (caddis larva, or as my wife would say, maggots. lol)
for my ice fishing needs for the season. Take what I need for a day trip and keep the
rest in a cottage cheese style container filled with wood chips. I keep them in the side
door of the frig. Small tip: Make sure the lid is on tight when putting the container back
in the frig. Happy wife, happy life.
$16 for 1000. Another variety I use to buy 1000 of were called
mousies at the bait store. Another form of caddis fly larva
that turn into horse flies. They are unobtainium this year and
have been getting ridiculously expensive the last few years.
Ice Fishing Jigs
It's time. This latest cold snap has set up all
of our local lakes, and they're getting some first ice anglers.
I wait a few days after they go out before I do.
But it's time again.
Panfish taste so much sweeter this time of year because
of thier diet. Microscopic critters barely visable to the
eye called diatomes and copepods. Much different then their summer diet
of bugs, worms and minnows.
Occasional 12 inch bluegills in this local gem of a lake.
