One year ago today. Suicide Basin up on the Mendenhall Glacier drained, boring through the ice down to bedrock & flowing into the lake. The river then jumped the bank, flooding our house along with about 400 of our neighbors.

The basin is now full again & poised to let go in the next few days.
Man this is terrible, I am sorry. Hope everything goes as well as it can and relief is coming.

The flooding south of me where my folks once lived has not really abated for around a month now and this has also been a second consecutive year for them. Just the worst.

Thank you. The Army Corps, FEMA, & many others have been helping immensely & we are grateful. The thing is, as the glacier continues to recede there’s evidence of other basins higher up on the ice field. So it truly has become an annual occurrence that’s growing in severity. It really works a number on your mind, & to just move isn’t so easy an option. But we realize there’s lots of folks the world over that deal with far far worse, so there’s that. And we have a lot to be thankful for.
