Wood Ducks returned on 3-28. Five of them. More should be coming.
So far, 3 males and 2 females.

Hooded Mergansers - Returned 3-26 - They stay for a week or so, and then
continue their northward journey.

Geese - They do not play well with other ducks and I've been
chasing off a few pair of them for the last week.

A few pics and I'm out the door. I grab a leaf rake and
hold it high above my head, and then if needed, throw some disparaging
remarks at them. They tell me what they think as they fly off.
Plently of spots along the river marsh lands nearby for
nesting.

There is also the case of the land mines they leave. With 2 or 3 pairs of
them, they can make walking around the pond a slip and slide experience.
As well, if it freezes overnight as it often does this time of year,
one can trip over their dog sized turds.

The main reason we chase them off is they try to claim the pond as a
geese only spot and will chase off the other ducks. If they could play
well with others I'd let them stay, but they don't.

A week after thousands of Red Winged Blackbird's northward migration happens,
the Grackles showed up in force as well. A few stay but most are just
enjoying a temporary respite at our feeders on their northward journey.

Oh, are they removing these from the park? They were there a while. Sad to see em go if so.
Those are owned by a guy who bought the last of the remaining, original Doggie Diner heads after the company went out of business around the late '80s. He had them restored and repainted back to their original glory and has since been traveling around putting them on display at select locations. So yeah, I think they'll be on display at another yet to be determined location. I think it'll still be around the Bay Area, though.
