Getting ready to cut a new baffle for my Sano re-build combo. Not really enough room for 2-12" speakers, so I am scaling down to 2-10" speakers. I've had good luck with Eminence. Which of these would be better: the Ragin Cajun or the Copperhead? I like the sound of 12" speakers so I am looking for fat sounding 10" to get back towards that sound.

(I didn't really look at their Red Coat series since I am looking for more of a US sound vs. a Brit, although at 102db the Red Fang would be pretty loud.)

The amp is rated at around 35-40 watts.

I'm interested in responses to this as well. I have a 2x10 with a Ragin' Cajun and a Celestion G10S-50. Looking for a little more top end. Wondering how a Cajun/Copperhead mix would work?

I spent some time playing through a 68 SF Princeton with a new Copperhead the other day. It was very smooth and pleasing. I felt the tonal balance was quite good. It stood up the the amp and had a usable breakup at higher levels. Most importantly, it sounded as it "belonged". No incongruities. Nice speaker.

I suppose I could do one of each, but the Cajun is 100.5 DB and the Copperhead is 98.76 DB. Would there be a noticeable difference in volume?

The Cajun would be doing most of the work.

My favorite mix is a Cajun and a Lil' Buddy.

I also like regular plain vanilla Legend 1058s. They seem to work with everything...

...while a lone Cajun can sound harsh in some amps. It pairs well with the Lil' Buddy.

Red Fangs are nice. Nice 'n' expensive. Still, if we're talkin' Blues, Blue Dogs, Blue Pups or Red Fangs I'll go for the Red Fangs every time

I have heard great things about mixing an alnico 10" with a ceramic 10".. Eminence makes the alnico 1028K rated at 35 watts. That, along with the Copperhead ceramic, would probably be a match made in heaven..I have two 1028Ks in my Brown '63 Vibroverb reissue, and I am very very happy with them. However, I am going to get a Copperhead or a similar Eminence ceramic speaker to pair with one of those, and put the other 1028K in my silver-face Princeton Reverb .. I love Eminence speakers.. They are among the best sounding speakers made, imo. They are a great value, price wise, and they are Made In USA...... I like that, too! .. Just a thought.. ;)

Me too.

I've tried the RC in my PR and couldn't get it out of there fast enough. Put in a CH and love it. I've found the CH a great match with Fender sounding amps.

There's an idea: a Copperhead and a 1028. I have had good luck with the Legend series and volume-wise it is a better match.

I've been using a 1028k in my PR copy and I've just swapped it out for a Copperhead. While I've not had the chance to try the Copperhead at volume yet (my drummer is on holiday), playing at household levels the two are not very different sounding. Eminence's response graphs would seem to back this up, and looking at the two speakers side by side they appear to use the same cone (it is stamped with the same code). I guess the two will behave differently when cranked, but if you're looking to pair two differently voiced speakers the 1028k and Copperhead are actually quite similar in some ways.
The Ragin Cajun I have not tried, I considered using one but it appears to have that same 2-3k spike which I have disliked in other speakers. Pairing it with another speaker might help even that out a bit however.

The rajin cajun will dominate anything else you put in there. Extreme mid punch....
1 Alnico + 1 ceramic might be nice in there too..but, not fang,,too loud.
I had a 2 CTS 10 vib reissue, that sounded nice.

FWIW, I called eminence a few months ago asking about pairing 10" speakers and the guy I spoke to (Tony, I think) said that the Ragin Cajun / Copperhead combo was his favorite speaker combo. He said they compliment each other well, especially in a 4x10 config.
