A legend in Cleveland and northeast Ohio.

My first big concert was the last time he played to the Richfield Coliseum. Dec '83, if I recall correctly. Donny Iris and the Cruisers opened.

In the seventies and eighties, in NE Ohio, a Michael Stanley Band concert meant you were going to have a good night!

I took me a minute for the synapses to close and for to remember. A great talent, songwriter, and performer. The Sax on “Let’s get the show on the road” always blew me away.
Saw the Michael Stanley Band 2-3 times (‘74-‘80) and each show was a good time.
Gonna download some MSB and bring back some memories
    RIP

Wore the grooves out on Stage Pass
Shame we get reminded all too often of the fragility of life
There had been some discussion on local radio stations the last few days as it was well known he was in poor health

Hey, does the guitar play punch the sax at 2:29? Lol, too funny.

I loved this style of rock. Still do.

If that sax sounds familiar it's because the big man, Clarence Clemons, guested on that song.

Obviously I mean on the studio version and I'm sure that is the studio version over live video.

I thought so, but wondered if they were just channeling each other. Thanks for confirming my suspicion.

I was a born and bred Cleveland boy, but I never understood the the attraction to Michal Stanley other than he played some good tunes on his radio show.

It's probably because I wasn't around from the early seventies until the mid- nineties

    Are you sure he's dead?

I read something yesterday that he was going to take some time off due to illness.

This could be a case like that gal a couple months ago where "they" announced that she died but actually was still very much alive, only to really die a week or two later. People are in too much of a hurry these days.

If Stanley grew up in Cleveland it's no surprise that he died from lung cancer.

Back in the 1950's and 60's you could cut Cleveland's "air" with a knife or scoop it up by the shovel-full.

We used to have a saying back then.

"Cleveland?, you gotta be tough!" :)

"You can take the boy out of Cleveland, but you can't take the Cleveland out of the boy"

I am so saddened to read this. RIP  (this actually brought tears to my eyes)

    Stanley6-8-02.jpg

I grew up in NE Ohio, knew, went to school with or worked with many of his band and crew.
I saw MSB numerous times including the record setting Blossom series.
Lets Get the Show on the Road from that performance was mesmerizing.

One particular (W)"HOT Day" show at Idora Park really had the crowd captivated, most likely because the MSB song He Can't Love You had just been played on MTV's first day on the air.
Ironically, Michael didn't sing the lead vocal on that song.
