I remember watching the 6 TD game in Dec 1965 against the 49'ers on TV. It was like a man against boys - nobody could come close to tackling him.

Sad news. An athletic career cut way too short. Truly one of the greatest open field running backs ever - speed, power, balance, vision, and the ability to stop/cut on a dime. Watching him run is a thing of beauty.

Edit: I tried to drop a Bear down emoji and it only half worked.

My dad's favorite player (I was born in '67 so never really saw him play). My dad never forgave Halas' decision to have him return kicks.

Screw the NFL anyway . They're not about the game , they're about the money .

I didn't get to see much of him before his knees slowed him down.
But I'm still in awe and disbelief at the little I did see of him.

I never saw him play but I did read his autobiography I Am Third when I was a teenager and found it very moving. RIP :(
