As someone with a sugar impairment :p I should know better, last night my daughter wanted a Macky Dees for her and her sleepover friend, ok no problem but I wandered to the nearby Chinese takeaway as I can mostly inject for their special curry and chips. 3 units more insulin and my bloods started to rise like a rocket :/ for which the usual solution is another injection, but not last night as that meal needed 15 extra units of insulin (over 4 injections) and my bloods reached 20 mmol which isn't big or clever.

Very very odd, in a normal day eating around 160g carbs over 3 meals I use around 17u fast acting insulin (+ 12.5u basal) but that one meal used 23.5u alone which on the surface is shocking, but then I was at the end of the cartridge so perhaps should have changed it sooner.

A nice curry though :p

Why you eating any carbs at all? Insulin will kill you.

I guess if you're in your 40s or 50s, you should worry about your health. But I'll be 73 this year. And last year, I lost part of a kidney due to a cancerous tumor. And then they had to put stent coils in the kidney because a couple of arteries formed pseudoaneurysms. I flew to Florida recently, and the metal in my body set off the security scans at every airport.

I try to eat sensibly, but I'm done worrying about what I eat. I will reduce what I can, but I'm not giving up anything.
You don’t have to. Moderation in all things.

I put Spenda in my coffee every day and have been for several years. Haven't noticed any problems whatsoever.

I use Splenda every day and it's never adversely affected me.

Use Splenda as a sweetener in place of sugar. I've been using it in my coffee and my mind is sharp as a tack.

It's had a few tries over the 38 years I've been a type one diabetic but I'm dead in a week without it, so I think I'll carry on as I do :p , a non diabetic pancreas makes over 30 units of insulin a day, I inject around and about 30u in a day (basal & bolus added) which allows me to eat around and about 180g complex carbs a day which in turn allows me to maintain a 78kg body weight (24.8 bmi) and maintain a HBa1C of 42 - 45 mmol (6%)

Can someone eliminate the need for insulin by deleting carbs, bad carbs, from their diet?
A type one diabetic can't, a type 2 using insulin due to insulin resistance could, remembering the conditions although sharing the same name are different and differ pathologically.

I think it takes about 3 weeks to get off corn syrup. You can also replace it with frozen banana and strawberry smoothies with almond milk for your sweet tooth. If you give up sugar for a couple weeks, those smoothies will taste very sweet.
