The things that I use the most. My pencil, my try square, and my small tape measure. I use them, I set them down where I'm working, and then 10 minutes later, I can't remember where I put them.

When I was building my first tele, I dropped a bullet truss rod nut off the bench top. Three years later it has yet to resurface, search as I may. I know that one of these days, when I finally get everything "cleaned up", I'll find it. But until then, it remains the champ. Good thing I ordered two of them.

Patience (especially with finishes), followed by drill chuck key. I've got a big magnet stuck to the front of my press for the express purpose of keeping the key handy, but 50% of the time I set the damn thing down and lose it.

Pencil, caliper, Japanese saw, double sided tape.

Those are the things I'm always looking for because they're my most used tools and are always buried under a pile on my workbench.

I lose anything and everything even if it was just in my hand 1 minute ago. I am an unorganized mess and always have been. Some things never change no matter how hard we try to change them and I organize my shop only to have it become a disaster area again almost immediately.

I am finding this is becoming the case for me as well. I go out and purchase something then after looking for it for an hour I go get another one only to get it back in my shop and start using it and notice the one I was looking for is right in front of me. This is just bad man and the op should have known better than to make a post like this cause I know darn well there's a lot of us who are slobs in the shop man. I bet there's a few Sheldon's here too (Big Bang Theory) who have a spot and a place for everything and its net and organized as ever too

that drill bit extension thing that goes in my drill for screwdriver bits. I just bough ANOTHER one last night at the Depot because I lost the last one, again.

Pencil. And there are plenty of them - somewhere.
    Seems to be the winner.

I lose my evenings and weekends, but that's okay.

I think the only thing I've actually lost (so far) was the tiny little screw that holds the tips on my woodburning pen. I'm sure it has been swept up with the sawdust and is gone forever.

I have to add Humbucker springs. I ordered a bunch of "extras" from StewMac because I seem to lose one every time I take a Humbucker out, or install one. I have come to believe that they destabilize the time space continuum, because every time they bounce off the bench onto the floor, they simply disappear. I don't think I've ever found one once they hit they floor.

Screws or small tools. I'll have an allen wrench out (especially the 1.5mm saddle adjustment wrench... tiny bugger). I even paint them neon green so I can see them better! Nope... I'll set it down, and come back to it two seconds later *POOF*, the magical gnomes that live in my workshop steal them... they probably wind up with my picks...

Tuning forks. I'll bet I've bought thirty of the blasted things.
