I'm planning a trip to Austin & San Antonio and wondering about the Devils Backbone Tavern in Fischer Texas. Looks like a great place for music and drinking - what's it really like and are outsiders welcomed?
    Thanks

    It’s a great place on FM 32.
It’s closer to San Marcos/Wimberley than Fischer, IMO.
It’s small, and intimate, but well attended on weekends.
There’s another bar right next door, Riley’s Tavern.
    Both are biker friendly.
I saw my old friend and former bandmate, Erik Hokkannen there recently.
He and his band sounded great!
    It’s a good sounding room.
    You’ll enjoy it!

had a fun visit with the waitress and a couple locals...then came back on the Sunday for afternoon bluegrass band.

    Thanks Guitarharley!
I still play with my friends in that band (The Lost Sounds) as a sub, but they no longer play in Albert.
They play every Wednesday at the dance hall in nearby Hye.

No problem with this New Englander. I've been to Houston, Dallas, Irving, San Antonio, Austin, all on business. As they say, "It's a nice place to visit, but..." ;0)

When you come to SA check out Lonesome Rose. Great new honky tonk doing some cool music. Also check out Bandit BBQ and Gold Coffee, if you're a coffee drinker.

Check out Fredericksburg. It's not far from Austin and it's way cooler than the ditch, I mean Riverwalk, in San Antonio. Not to mention, Luchenbach is right down the road. It's just south of the intersection of 290 and 1376. Fredericksburg is the coolest. I'd recommend a place called Jenny's if you want smoked brisket burgers or the Auslander for good German food.

You'll be very close to the tiny town of Lockhart.
4 if the 10 best BBQ places in the world are there (according to NPR at least)
