I'm interested in an 85-86 MIJ 50's Strat, it may be a '57 RI. Anyone know what body wood those were made with? Alder, Basswood?

    thanks,
    Randy

if it was made for the domestic market, it could be ash. I have an MIJ 3 bolt, 3 tone burst from `85 that is ash... and heavy too. They used alder, ash, sen and basswood. I have read at many sites that the export models were basswood. Hard to say for sure, but the pockets may give more indication of wood type.
